For this project, we were tasked with creating a board game that contained a series of chemical reactions. After some deliberation, we decided to make our theme half forest and half volcano/fire land. We started with painting the board and the paths, and then we made the volcano and trees. We included three reactions in our board game. The first one was our single replacement reaction, we originally took Zinc Nitrate and poured it over Aluminum to make Aluminum Nitrate and Zinc, but we ran out of Zinc Nitrate and ended up using Copper Chlorate instead. Next, we had a gas producing reaction using Baking Soda and Vinegar to inflate a balloon which tipped Potassium Iodate into Lead Nitrate to activate a color changing double displacement. We also hooked up an LED light to turn off when we set off our single replacement reaction
Chemistry Concepts:
Single Replacement Reaction: When an element reacts with a compound and takes the place of one of the elements in the compound.
Double Replacement Reaction: When two compounds react, swapping the negative and positive ions and forming two new compounds
