EVIDENCE OF WORK: In this lab we tried to prove that homeostasis works and what causes is. Each group was given one part of homeostasis to test and we got heart rate. Some of the other parts were blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and breathing rate. To test heart rate we used a heart rate monitor and played different genres of games to see what caused increase in heart rate and to see if there was any at all. CONTENT: Heart Rate: how many times your heart beats per minute, this was what we were testing in our lab, when your heart pumps faster it increases how fast you blood flows through your body, this delivers oxygen to your cells to keep them alive Homeostasis: Equilibrium between interconnected elements, in this case in the body, We tested the heart rate element specifically Cardiovascular System: Maintains homeostasis throughout the body, we were testing heart rate and your heart is part of your cardiovascular system Fight or Flight: Your cardiovascular system prepares itself to maintain homeostasis when put into situations where you may need to exert a lot of force, these situations often result in you fighting whatever caused the situation(fight), or running away(flight). We simulated this by playing different types of games and seeing which ones triggered your fight or flight response
REFLECTION: I feel our tests went well and proved homeostasis through heart rate. When we didn't do anything the average of each person was consistently lower than any time we played any game. This was the result we thought was going to happen and it proves our testing methods valid. Throughout this lab I learned I can get very frustrated with things, I also learned that I am good at keeping the frustration in check and not taking it out on anything. One thing we could have done better in this lab would have been to be more consistent with our measurement timings, we were sometimes missing it because we didn't pay attention to the timer. Another thing we could have done better would have been to use a better heart rate monitor, the one we used was slow and hard to use, this further messed up our timing on our measurements and may have had a slight impact on our data. Even through all of that our data seemed to point towards the same things throughout all three players so we know that it didn't horribly corrupt the data. One thing I personally felt I did well on this lab was that I took on responsibilities, such as supplying one of the computers to play/test on. I also helped with coordination, trying to keep people's tests more on time to keep the data as accurate as we could. Something I didn't do so well on was keeping others focused, instead of trying to convince them to help I just did it without them. Another thing would be that I wasn't to good at playing some of the games and that could have had a slight impact on my personal data.
